The plan is to explore these and many more topics, based upon student interest:

  • Open (unsolved) problems, including the Graceful Tree Conjecture and Sum-Free Partitions.
  • Place value, via Exploding Dots and the Signaling Problem
  • River-crossing Problems
  • Mathematical magic tricks
  • Square numbers
  • Math history
  • Recreational mathematics

Both groups of students at Haven will explore the concepts of logic, number theory, functions, algebraic thinking, geometry, and problem-solving skills. Students will use mathematical-thinking skills including asking clarifying questions, stating assumptions, and forming conjectures. The goal is for students to invent and discover math for themselves. We will define math as the study of truth through making and breaking patterns.
