Ages: 11-14

Mathematics, like most subjects, cannot really be segmented into discreet topics. Everything overlaps. When students ask what Fermi Problems are, I say vaguely, “data.” These problems often involve geometry, arithmetic calculations, optimization, logic, statistics, and maybe most importantly, question asking. We’ll tackle some of them while we talk about the interesting history behind these types of rich and compelling math questions.
